Original Fundamental Research

Internal fundamental research is the cornerstone of Jennison’s investment process.  Purchase and sell ideas come from the firm’s analysts’ fundamental research and from the investment team’s daily interaction.  

Analysts focus on specific sectors and industries, and typically present ideas for purchase and sale at daily meetings with portfolio managers.  The merits of a recommendation are discussed and debated.  A potential holding’s current and long-term business fundamentals, strategic position, and prospects are carefully reviewed, as is the security’s valuation.  Portfolio managers also consider the recommendation in the context of the overall portfolio’s construction and risk.

Jennison analysts build their in-depth understandings of companies by meeting with senior management to test assumptions and investment considerations.  Analysts further develop their views of a company and its industry by meeting with customers, suppliers, and competitors.  Careful scrutiny of financial statements provides the foundation for building a fundamental outlook and earnings model.  Internal research and earnings projections are supplemented by third-party research, a network of industry contacts, and custom analyses developed by outside specialists and experts.

Jennison’s fixed income and equity research teams leverage information from each other to understand securities from both a debt and equity perspective, as well as to analyze market movements and trends.
